Swati Mehta PhD

Swati Mehta PhD, is a Scientist at Parkwood Institute Research, Lawson Research Institute, and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is a registered Psychotherapy with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Her research interest is in improving access to evidence based mental health services for those undergoing rehabilitation through online health programs.

Dr. Mehta completed a Masters of Art in Counselling Psychology and PhD in Health Services and Rehabilitation. She recently completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Regina in the Department of Psychology. She has authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles. She has been awarded the Lawson Impact Leadership Award in 2016, the Royal Society of Canada Alice Wilson Award in 2017, and the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation Excellence Award in 2017.

Alexandria Roa Agudelo

Alexandria Roa Agudelo is a Medical Lab Assistant/Technician by trade and has been working in clinical trials with Lawson since 2015. Alex has experience in several areas of research approval and conduct. She currently works as a Research Coordinator at Parkwood Institute, where she provides support with ethics and Health Canada applications for new studies, study initiation, data collection, and study close-outs for both investigator initiated, and industry sponsored clinical trials. In her spare time, Alex likes to teach yoga, and volunteers for Wellness Works in London, ON.

Daymon Blackport

Research Assistant

 

Daymon Blackport just finished his undergraduate degree with a BA in Kinesiology from Western University. He initially worked as a Summer Student under Dr. Robert Teasell in 2019 and had since moved on to work under Dr. Swati Mehta as a Research Assistant. Daymon plans on working with us while he decides where his next academic steps will take him.

Jessica Ahrens

Research Assistant

 

Jess Ahrens is an undergraduate student in Neuroscience and Mental Health with a minor in Psychology at Carleton University. She is enrolled in the co-operative education program and initially applied to work for Dr. Mehta for just the summer of 2020 but enjoyed her work so much that she has stayed with us since. Jess is also hoping to complete a master’s degree in psychology in the near future.

Miteshkumar Chaudhary

Research Assistant

 

Miteshkumar Chaudhary has completed the Computer Programmer Analyst Program at Fanshawe College. He is currently working at the RehabPsych Lab with Dr. Swati Mehta and Lawson ITS to develop a web platform to deliver online mental health services for persons with neurological health conditions including spinal cord injury, brain injury, and stroke. He enjoys spending his free time doing photography.

Wallace Upper

Clinical Research Associate

 

Wallace Upper is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. He has completed a Masters of Social Work from Wilfred Laurier University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Brock University. Wallace has experience in providing psychoeducation and counseling to individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities. He is currently working as a Health Educator and Clinical Research Assistant in the RehabPsych Lab. Wallace provides clinical support to persons with neurological conditions through the online mental health programs offered by RehabPsych Lab. He also brings with him (or brings to this project) life experience as he sustained an SCI over 30 years ago.

Joyee Barua

Research Assistant

 

Joyee Barua is a Ph.D. student in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Western University under the combined supervision of Dr. Swati Mehta and Dr. Jeffrey Holmes, focusing on mental health research. Her interest in psychology and rehabilitation sciences led her to join RehabPsychLab during her master's studies in 2020. Currently, she is developing and evaluating an internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy program for care partners of individuals with spinal cord injury. In her spare time, Joyee enjoys painting, baking, and spending time with her loved ones.
